My name is Rommy Helena Novoa Reyes, I am an obstetrician–gynecologist with a Master of Science in Epidemiological Research. I am currently undertaking a PhD and a Fellowship in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the BCNatal – Fetal Medicine Research Center and Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, Spain.
I graduated in Medicine from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru, and subsequently obtained my MSc in Epidemiological Research from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Following my postgraduate training, I worked as a medical consultant at the Peruvian National Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health, contributing to the development of national clinical guidelines, scientific evidence assessment, and the coordination of research and public health projects. I later completed my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos.
Since completing my residency, I have worked as a consultant in the High-Risk Pregnancy Unit at the Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal in Lima, Peru. My clinical and research activities have included telemedicine initiatives aimed at improving maternal and perinatal care during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as research focused on fetal pathologies.
My primary research interest lies in fetal programming of cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on characterizing changes in cardiovascular structure and function in cohorts born small for gestational age (SGA). One of my main professional goals is to contribute to the improvement of maternal and perinatal health in my country through large-scale, translational research projects with meaningful clinical impact for both mothers and their unborn children.
