Emily H. Adhikari, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Maternal–Fetal Medicine, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her clinical practice is in the Parkland Health and Hospital System where she serves as Medical Director of Perinatal Infectious Diseases. Dr. Adhikari coordinates infectious disease surveillance and treatment for pregnant women receiving care at Parkland, which has an annual delivery volume of approximately 13,000. Dr. Adhikari has dedicated her career to optimizing maternal health outcomes in disadvantaged populations, and conducts research aimed at understanding, preventing, and treating infectious diseases in pregnant and postpartum patients. Dr. Adhikari conducts translational research funded by a career development award from NIH to study the placental transcriptional response to syphilis infection. Among other efforts, Dr. Adhikari contributes to Williams Obstetrics, serves on the editorial board of Obstetrics and Gynecology journal, and is a new member of the Infectious Disease and Emerging Threats Committee for the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
