Dr. Lilly Liu is the Medical Director of Critical Care Obstetrics at Montefiore Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and
Critical Care Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Subsequently, she completed her Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship and Anesthesia Critical Care Fellowship at Columbia University-New York Presbyterian Hospital. As a specialist in Obstetric Intensive Care, Dr. Liu works as an Attending Physician within the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Division of Critical Care Medicine’s Surgical, Cardiac Surgery, and Medical Intensive Care Units. As part of her background in public health, Dr. Liu has worked extensively throughout South America and sub-Saharan Africa and devotes the remainder of her clinical time to continuing her global health commitment in Gaborone, Botswana, where she is working to develop a Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship program.
Dr. Liu’s academic and clinical areas of interest include maternal complex cardiac disease, maternal point of-care ultrasound and echocardiography, maternal sepsis, surgical obstetrics, management of maternal hemorrhage and placenta accreta spectrum, and global women’s health. She has been involved in multiple quality improvement initiatives to optimize multidisciplinary care for obstetric critical care patients and to address preventable causes of maternal morbidity and mortality both domestically and abroad. Her work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, review articles, and best practice guidelines, as well as presented both nationally and internationally. She is a reviewer for several medical journals including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the British Medical Journal. She is a recipient of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Queenan Global Health Award
