Vice-chair of Education and Innovation
Maternal Fetal Medicine
University of Kansas Medical Center
Kansas City, Kansas, United States
Professor Brian Brost currently works at the University of Kansas caring for high-risk pregnancy women and their baby’s from around the region and serves the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department as Vice-Chair for Education and Innovation. I have spent my career developing, teaching and sharing simulation techniques integral to the spectrum of learners in my institutions, across the country, and in global health settings.
My passion is education and innovation. I went to the Mayo Clinic in 2003 to establish their inaugural Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program and to serve as the Fellowship Director for more than a decade. Because of my fascination with simulation as an educational tool, I was hooked up with a fantastic group of educators that were about to start planning a new multidisciplinary simulation center at Mayo Clinic. We have developed novel approaches to improving clinical procedures such as cervical cerclage, ultrasound guided needle procedures and incarcerated uterus in pregnancy just to name a few examples. During this time, he was recruited to the Mayo Clinic Center of Innovation to lead the Culture and Competency of Innovation Core and lead a multitude of groups at Mayo on their Innovation journey. He was recruited to Wake Forest University to serve as the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division Director and MFM Fellowship Director and then was promoted to Vice Chair of Education and Faculty Development.
He has received numerous National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education from the Council of Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Deans Award for Teaching Excellence and Golden Apple Awards for teaching medical students in Clinical Sciences. He was inducted into the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgical Educators and also is a member of the University of Kansas Academy of Medical Educators.
