Dr. Hector Mendez-Figueroa is an Professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, Texas, where he serves as the principal investigator for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network. He has dedicated much of his career to advancing research and education in MFM, particularly focusing on pregnancy-related complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes in pregnancy, and antenatal management of fetal growth abnormalities. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and has contributed to several textbooks in the field. He is the recipient of several federal grants to conduct clinical research in diverse areas of MFM.
Additionally, Dr. Mendez-Figueroa serves on multiple national grant review panels and as a Certified examiner in Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Specialty Certifying Examinations for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also a past member of the Editorial Board for the Obstetrics and Gynecology (Green) Journal.
Dr. Mendez-Figueroa has been honored with numerous teaching awards, including the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award and the Mentor of the Year Award from District XI of ACOG. During his free time, he is also an avid runner, having completed over 10 half marathons in the past 15 years.
