Professor Eric Jauniaux, MD, PhD, FRCOG, Professor in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine, EGA Institute for Women Health (IfWH), Faculty of Live Science, University College London (UCL), UK. Eric Jauniaux has worked for over 30 years on placental and fetal development and on the diagnosis and management of placental-related complications of pregnancy. He is an internationally renowned authority on the physiology of early pregnancy. In collaboration with Profs Graham Burton (CTR, Cambridge) and Davor Jurkovic (IfWH, UCL), he provided a series of ground-breaking insights into the development of the human gestational sac and the mechanisms leading to miscarriage.
He is the author or co-author of over 500 peer-reviewed research, clinical, and basic science original articles and reviews, and the editor or co-editor of 15 books and textbooks, including Embryonic Medicine and Therapy with Sir Bob Edwards (Nobel Prize in Medicine 2010).
He was one of the founding editors and was section editor of Reproductive Bio-Medicine online 2000-2012, and has been Perspective/Scientific Editor for BJOG since 2013. He has been the coordinator of the FIGO guidelines on the diagnosis and management of placenta accreta spectrum disorders, and he is the lead developer of the 2018 and 2026 RCOG GTG27 on placenta praevia, placenta accreta, and vasa praevia. In the last 8 years, in collaboration with Pr. Ahmed Hussein (Cairo University, Egypt) Graham J Burton (Univerity of Cambridge), he has made major novel contributions to understanding the mechanisms leading to the development of accreta placentation. He is currently developing research projects on the effect of air and water pollutions on pregnancy.
