Dr. Hansen is Professor, Special Title Series, in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Kentucky. She is a native of Michigan and completed undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan. She attended Medical School at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, graduating AOA in 1986. She completed both her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency (1990) and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship (1992) at the University of North Carolina. She has worked as a faculty member both at the University of North Carolina and the University of Iowa before joining the University of Kentucky in 2004 as Division Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine. In 2008 the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship was accredited and accepted their first MFM Fellow. In 2010, she became Chair of the Department serving two six-year terms. Under her tenure the Department experienced unprecedented clinical growth, enhanced a successful research portfolio, focused on excellence in educational programs and started new Divisions in Urogynecology, Academic Laborists, Midwives and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Her research interests include maternal complications of pregnancy, opioid use disorder, and breastfeeding. She has remained very clinically active. She has authored over 45 publications along with multiple chapters, e-publications, and abstracts. She has been recognized for excellence in medical education.
