Shinjiro Hirose, MD, is a Professor and Chief of the Division of Fetal Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Since joining the faculty in 2025, Dr. Hirose has been instrumental in the expansion of the Fetal Center, recruiting a multidisciplinary team of MFM and Fetal Surgery experts.
A nationally recognized leader in fetal and pediatric surgery, Dr. Hirose specializes in complex interventions for gastro-intestinal, biliary, liver, and thoracic disorders. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before pursuing medicine, a background he leverages to advance pediatric surgical device development and robotic surgery. Dr. Hirose currently serves as the lead fetal surgeon at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where he directs programs dedicated to families facing complex prenatal diagnoses.
