Dr. Washington Hill is a long-term Sarasota obstetrician, gynecologist and specialist in maternal-fetal medicine practicing medicine for over 60 years. He is founding Director of the high-risk pregnancy program at Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System and has delivered babies over 60 years recently retiring from SMHCS after 35 years of service. He received his M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine and completed residency at William Beaumont Army General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. After 12 years in private practice in the Bay Area, he completed a Fellowship at UCSF in Maternal-Fetal Medicine or high-risk pregnancy. He holds, academic appointments at a number of prestigious schools of medicine.
Dr. Hill still has a strong interest in reducing maternal and infant illness and mortality, the best of obstetrical clinical care, professional education, community health, education and partnership. He is a regular participant at conferences throughout the country. Over the years, he has completed numerous global missions in Africa. Recently, he completed two years in Rwanda, Africa teaching African medical students, residents, faculty and staff "Safe Motherhood".
Today, as a Emeritus member of SMFM, Dr. Hill is involved in the care of high-risk obstetrical patients with substance use disorders, promoting Safe Motherhood, for all but especially in making the Black birthing experience safer, eqitable, reducing perinatal health disparities, perinatal/community education, and reviewing obstetrical medical-legal cases. "Time to improve maternal and health outcomes and prepare the next generation of OB clinicians to do their very best assisting all birthing people."
