Alyssa Solberg is a medical student at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, conducting research under the mentorship of Dr. Kara Hoppe on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and postpartum hypertension care. Her commitment to maternal health research stems from her clinical experiences as a medical assistant in an OBGYN private practice in Boston, Massachusetts, and her background in translational research. She previously conducted neurobiology research at Harvard Medical School and later worked on clinical trials in neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, focusing on progressive multiple sclerosis and pediatric demyelinating disorders. These experiences in both basic science and translational research continue to shape her perspective, providing a strong foundation in mechanistic inquiry and data-driven clinical application.
Her current work analyzes statewide trends in hypertension-related severe maternal morbidity with the goal of informing strategies to improve care for pregnant and postpartum patients. Alyssa hopes to build on this foundation as she pursues a career in obstetrics and gynecology.
