Sophia Gomez is a second-year medical student at Oregon Health & Science University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in BioHealth Sciences from Oregon State University. Her interests include the social determinants of health, cost-effective approaches to care, and how maternal interventions influence neonatal outcomes. Growing up in Klamath Falls and working at her parents’ Mexican taco shop, she witnessed firsthand how access, availability, and language barriers impact patient care. These experiences deepened her commitment to serving rural communities and addressing health disparities. She looks forward to a future career dedicated to family-centered care in underserved areas.
