Dr Aoife Egan is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a Senior Associate Consultant in the Division of Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr Egan received her medical and doctoral degrees from the National University of Ireland, Galway. She completed her internal medicine residency in the Mater Hospital in Dublin and Mayo Clinic Arizona. She completed an Endocrine fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and underwent further fellowship training at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. She joined faculty at Mayo Clinic in July 2020.
Dr Egan’s clinical and research focus is on diabetes, before, during and after pregnancy. Her doctoral work included the design, delivery, and assessment of a regional prepregnancy care program for women with pregestational diabetes. Her current research is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIDDK K23) and the Mayo Clinic Elizabeth and Robert Strickland Career Development Award in Endocrinology. She is currently leading several clinical studies examining pancreatic islet function in women during and after pregnancy.
