Richard K. Silver, MD is the Chair, OB-GYN and Chief Academic Officer at Endeavor/NorthShore Hospitals, and a Clinical Professor & Associate Dean, at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate and medical school training in Northwestern University’s Honors Program in Medical Education. He did his residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he served as the chief resident in his final year. He returned to Northwestern to complete fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) and joined NorthShore in 1987. Since that time Dr. Silver has held multiple leadership positions including Director of the Division of MFM from 1994-2000, Chairman of the Department from 2001 to the present, Chief Academic Officer for Endeavor/NorthShore and Associate Dean for Medical Education in the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago, the latter two beginning in 2009. In 2001 he became the inaugural holder of an OB-GYN endowed chair from the NorthShore Auxiliary.
His clinical care as a member of the MFM Division continues along with administrative responsibilities as described above. He is a prolific researcher with multiple NIH and other federal grants, with recent emphasis on reducing barriers to care for pregnant and postpartum persons suffering from adverse perinatal mental health. His department emphasizes both research and education, the latter exemplified by multiple fellowship programs in the reproductive health subspecialties, a strong residency training program in partnership with the University of Chicago and active teaching in undergraduate medical education for the Pritzker as well as visiting medical students. He was also a 30-year examiner for the Oral Evaluation conducted by the American Board of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. Dr. Silver is the igaugural Chairman of the Board for the multi-specialty Endeavor One Medical Group.
