The Morning Sickness Clinic, LLC
I am an emergency physician by training, and as such I would often see the ways patients fall through the cracks in the medical system. Without access to good care outside of the hospital, many patients end up being treated in the most costly and intensive settings, mainly the Emergency Department and the hospital. In 2022, I opened The HG and Morning Sickness Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama, the country's first outpatient treatment center for patients suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. I saw the need for better continuity of care for this patient population and developed a clinic model to meet the patients’ needs. We see a greater than 90% reduction in expected hospitalizations and ER visits in patients in our treatment pathway. In our first three years, we have seen almost 1,500 women suffering from sNVP and HG.
