Assistant Professor
Emory University School of Medicine
My namie is Marissa Platner and I am currently a physician and Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. I am the Fellowship Director for the Maternal Fetal Medicine program and the Perinatal Education Director for the Maternal Fetal Medicine division. My research has primarily focused on maternal mortality as well as drivers of severe maternal morbidity. I have had an active role in prospective research trials regarding postpartum remote blood pressure monitoring, the association of social determinants of health and SMM, as well as the role of comorbid conditions and SMM. Additionally, I established a Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM) Review Committee, which reviews all cases of SMM, occurring on a monthly basis in our hospital and serve on the Georgia Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
Working on the front line clinically with high risk pregnant women at both Emory University Hospital Midtown and Grady Memorial Hospital gives me a unique perspective and insight on disparities in prenatal care and maternal health outcomes.
