Tetsuya Kawakita, MD, MS is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University and a maternal–fetal medicine specialist at EVMS Medical Group. He completed his medical degree at Kanazawa University in Japan, followed by residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Maternal–Fetal Medicine fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University, where he also earned a Master of Science degree.
Dr. Kawakita’s research focuses on improving maternal and perinatal outcomes through clinical epidemiology, health equity, and data-driven methods. His work spans hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, obesity, timing and mode of delivery, social determinants of health, and the application of machine learning and comparative effectiveness research in obstetrics. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Perinatology.
