Dr. Raneen Abu Shqara, MD, completed her medical studies cum laude at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Galilee Medical Center, where she now serves as a specialist and Maternal–Fetal Medicine fellow. She is a Clinical Lecturer at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar-Ilan University, where she teaches in both pre-clinical and clinical courses, including Genetics, Reproduction, Growth and Development, Obstetrical Emergencies, and the Introduction to Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also mentors medical students during their clerkships and serves on the M.D. thesis committee.
Her research focuses on maternal and perinatal infections, antibiotic prophylaxis in labor, gestational diabetes, induction of labor, and analgesia during labor. She has published extensively on topics such as the prevalence of E. coli in placental cultures among women with prolonged rupture of membranes, vertical transmission of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae, outcomes of intrapartum fever and chorioamnionitis, and infectious risks in cesarean and vaginal deliveries.
Dr. Abu Shqara has received multiple awards for her teaching and mentorship (2019–2025) and several national research prizes, including consecutive Best Maternal–Fetal Medicine Research Awards.
