Britney P. Smart is the Associate Director of Evaluation at Sinai Urban Health Institute. In her role, Britney works with the Health Equity Research and Evaluation (HERE) team to develop and implement community-partnered program evaluation. She is also a PhD student at the University of Illinois Chicago in the Department of Community Health Sciences and the Center of Excellence for Maternal and Child Health.
Britney has over seven years of experience working in health disparity research, managing a portfolio of projects aimed at understanding and addressing inequities in maternal and child health and improving outcomes for Black and Brown birthing patients. She has expertise in grant writing, study design, program implementation, and data management and analysis.
Before joining SUHI, Britney worked at NorthShore University HealthSystem, managing an extensive portfolio of federally funded research projects that examined the underlying biological pathways that lead to the embodiment of socio-economic and racial/ethnic inequities. She also worked with a team of interdisciplinary researchers to implement a clinically-integrated breastfeeding peer counselor program at two novel sites, utilizing implementation science principles and mixed methods research strategies to measure the program’s efficacy for improving breast/chestfeeding rates and reducing inequities in outcomes.
