Dr. Tenisha Wilson is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her clinical interests center on preconception counseling and the prevention of obesity-related pregnancy complications, with a focus on optimizing maternal health before, during, and after pregnancy to improve outcomes for both mother and child. She is particularly passionate about empowering women through education on exercise, nutrition, and metabolic wellness across the preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum continuum.
Dr. Wilson earned her MD and PhD in Immunology from the University of Florida, where she became the first African American woman to complete the university’s dual-degree program. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Throughout her training and career, Dr. Wilson has been recognized for her leadership in advancing diversity, mentorship, and community engagement—serving as Community Service Chief and chairing the Johns Hopkins Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Diversity Council. Her work has been featured nationally, including presentations at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American College of Rheumatology.
At UNC, Dr. Wilson is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and to expanding access to high-level maternal and fetal care for women and families across North Carolina—particularly those in underserved and high-risk communities.
