Nasim Sobhani is an associate professor in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). A native Texan, she received her undergraduate degree in Psychology/Neuroscience from Princeton University and her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington and fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at UCSF. Dr. Sobhani is the medical director of the Endocrine, Diabetes, and Pregnancy Program, a multidisciplinary program responsible for overseeing the care and management of all pregnant individuals with pre-existing and gestational diabetes at UCSF. As the most common medical complication of pregnancy, diabetes contributes to significant increases in the risk of adverse maternal, obstetric, and neonatal outcomes. Thoughtful clinical research is needed to optimize the care of pregnant people living with diabetes. Dr. Sobhani’s research efforts examine how to leverage emerging diabetes technology in the pregnant population; how to improve perinatal outcomes for pregnancies with type 1 and type 2 diabetes; how to diagnose and manage gestational diabetes; and how to better understand the emotional and behavioral needs of pregnant people with diabetes.
